Why Make-Up Air Matters
Kitchens, plants, and shops exhaust large volumes of air. Without matching make-up air, the space goes negative, which backdrafts appliances, slams doors, and hurts exhaust performance.
What happens if you wait:
- Negative pressure backdrafts combustion appliances.
- Exhaust hoods stop clearing smoke and fumes.
- Doors slam and comfort suffers.
- Poor ventilation risks safety and compliance.

Make-Up Air Units FAQs
What is a make-up air unit?
A make-up air unit brings fresh outside air into a building to replace air pulled out by exhaust fans and hoods. It often heats or tempers that air. MAUs keep the building pressure balanced so exhaust works and appliances vent safely.
How do I know if my make-up air is short?
Common clues are doors that slam or are hard to open, exhaust hoods that won't clear smoke, and backdrafting or odors from combustion appliances. These point to negative pressure from too little make-up air. We test and balance it.
Can unbalanced pressure be dangerous?
Yes. Strong negative pressure can backdraft furnaces and water heaters, pulling combustion gases indoors, and can defeat exhaust ventilation. Balancing make-up air with exhaust protects safety and compliance.
Do you service the heating section too?
Yes. Many MAUs temper incoming air with a burner or heating coil. We service and safety-check that heating section along with the fan and controls. Call (949) 593-2781.
